 | Looking Back on May 3rd of 2002 at LCS | | | |
 | Tuesday February 05 2008, 02:37:00 PM Ok, I recently went to the Memphis Democrat website, and did a search for Jim Hamelton and Justin Hamelton. What I found, was probably the only race that all four drivers in the team at that time, placed in the top ten. All four drivers! The division was the River City Motors Wildthings and the feature event had 18 racecars enter. Ok, here are the results: Richard Bank (#7R) placed second, his son Robert Bank (#2B) placed fourth, Jim Hamelton Sr (#77) placed eighth, and Justin Hamelton (#28) placed tenth.
- #01X Beau Witaker, Hamilton, IL
- #7R Richard Bank, Alexandria, MO*
- #74 Aaron Burdette, Keokuk, IA
- #2B Robert Bank, Alexandria, MO
- #8X Larry Kite, Keokuk, IA
- #99 Jerry Hutson, Nauvoo, IL
- #5 Ed Balmer, Hamilton, IL
- #77 Jim Hamelton, Keokuk, IA
- #8 Josh Soper, Kahoka, MO
- #28 Justin Hamelton, Hamilton, IL
This is rare now, to have all the drivers in the team place in the top 10. Richard made a statement saying that he is planning on making a return to racing, and to Hamelton Racing team. Is he going to drive a Wildthing again or is he going to go back to Stockcars and Hobbystocks like he had in the mid 1990s? Only one way to find out, and that is if he does make a return. And, is Robert going to make a return? If he does, what division is he going to run in? These are just a few questions that may or may not be answered. I will leave you puzzled right now and I loet you know the answers as soon as I get them. Legend: Team Members - Ally - Not Currently Racing - May Return to Racing*

 | Autism Awareness - Help Us Spread It | | | |
 | Thursday January 24 2008, 08:52:01 AM Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain, impacting development in the areas of social interaction and communication skills. Both children and adults with autism typically show difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and leisure or play activities. One should keep in mind however, that autism is a spectrum disorder and it affects each individual differently and at varying degrees - this is why early diagnosis is so crucial. By learning the signs, a child can begin benefiting from one of the many specialized intervention programs. Autism is one of five disorders that falls under the umbrella of Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD), a category of neurological disorders characterized by “severe and pervasive impairment in several areas of development.” The five disorders under PDD are: - Autistic Disorder
- Asperger's Disorder
- Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD)
- Rett's Disorder
- PDD-Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS)
Each of these disorders has specific diagnostic criteria which been outlined in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR). Prevalence of Autism Autism is the most common of the Pervasive Developmental Disorders, affecting an estimated 1 in 150 births (Centers for Disease Control Prevention, 2007). Roughly translated, this means as many as 1.5 million Americans today are believed to have some form of autism. And this number is on the rise. Based on statistics from the U.S. Department of Education and other governmental agencies, autism is growing at a startling rate of 10-17 percent per year. At this rate, the ASA estimates that the prevalence of autism could reach 4 million Americans in the next decade. Autism knows no racial, ethnic, social boundaries, family income, lifestyle, or educational levels and can affect any family, and any child. And although the overall incidence of autism is consistent around the globe, it is four times more prevalent in boys than in girls.

 | Friday January 18 2008, 01:35:35 AM Ok, just recently, I checked to see if our old website back from 2001 was still up. IT IS! Now, I have been thinking back and looking at those 'old' photos of Justin. It does not seem that long ago but it has. We, or I should say Justin, built our first website back in 2001, the days of the Macomb Speedway and the Quincy Raceway. When the 4-Cylinders had a new racing class of their own and new drivers took to the track. Now, most of our friends that raced with us back in the day, no longer race, or they have moved. But, some still race, just in a higher class. Justin moved up to Hobby Stocks in 2004 and Jim Sr moved up to Hobby Stocks in 2007. But back to the early days. Ok, Ed Balmer, Rachel Balmer and TJ Newberry were 'allies' of Hamelton Racing and helped out when ever they could. We still have a photo of Ed's mangled up stock car, and we will place it in the Photo Gallery. But, Justin's first win was in his 1987 Chevrolet Spectrum (how did he manage to fit in that little car?) at Quincy Raceway in 2001, which, by the way, was the last race of the 2001 season. Justin has won in ways he loved and ways he wished he wouldn't have won. For instance, it was at Lee County Speedway and Justin was in the lead of the feature event. Then, the caution flag came out... shortly after, the red flag came out and the track was quiet. A teenager, racing for the first year had wrecked. He was taken to the hospital but survived, thank god. So, since Justin was in the lead when the red flag came out, he was declared the winner.
As we find more photos and possibly videos of Hamelton Racing's past, we will post them and inform you. Soon, I will have stories from Rick Hamelton, Jim hamelton Sr, Justin Hamelton, Linda Hamelton, Kyle Hamelton and Hayley Hamelton about what they thought of the past and how the team is now. If you liked this news post, and would like to contribute some facinating stories from the past, email them to webmaster @ hameltonracing.com
